Why Wikipedia?

You may wonder why we chose to include information from wikipedia.org on our subject pages. Here are the top 4 reasons.

  1. Wikipedia provides Context: We wanted to include some basic information on our pages to help put forum topics, blogs, articles and other resources in context. Wikipedia has an amazing depth of information, and more pages are being added every day. To read an overview of wikipedia, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:About.
  2. Wikipedia is Current: Wikipedia is constantly being updated and edited by people all over the world. As things change in the medical community, wikipedia changes as well.
  3. Wikipedia is peer reviewed: Wikipedia is reviewed and edited by millions of people, so we believe that mistakes and misinformation are caught quickly.
  4. Wikipedia fits with the values of the Galen Foundation and beating-myeloma.org: We believe that access to a full spectrum of approaches to confronting disease will help people live longer, better lives. Since anyone can create a page or make edits on wikipedia, the information it contains is more diverse than many medical sources. We also believe that the profit motive can be detrimental to true healing. Wikipedia is run by the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to producing free, education information.

Please note: As always, we do not intend for any information on our website, or on wikipedia, to take the place of a doctor's advice, or any other source of information.
