Mary Jo,
You are correct there was a study done with bioprene that showed improved absorption of curcumin, however, there have been other sudies that have showed no difference. When I first started taking curcumin, I was taking it with thalidomide. My concern was what might improve the absorption of curcumin could actually interfere with the absorption of thalidomide. Both thalidomide and bioprene work through the liver. The reality over three years was that the thalidomide curcumin combination did not require bioprene to have a significant syngistic effect. In fact, from monitoring my M-spike over three years, the rate of decrease of my M-spike was greater when I was only taking 500 mg curcumin. I went up to two grams curcumin with the 150 mg thalidomide and saw no better response than with 500 mg curcumin. I was taking Jarrow brand curcumin, 500 mg.
