Subject: Fish Oil and Revlimid

In case any of you are taking fish oil, and also
Revlimid or are having platelet issues, this info
came from Claire McKinley, a dietician at the MM
clinic at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

********************************************
The fish oil was suggested to alter the cell
structure of the platelet and the ability for the
platelets to gather together by reacting to the
levels of a particular phosphate containing compound
called adenosine diphosphate and collagen. Now, the
proposed mechanism is the incorporation of certain
components of omega-3 (Eicosapentaenoic acid and
Docosahexaenoic acid) into platelet and cell
membranes creating a reduction in a compound called
thromboxane A2 and reduces active platelets from
generating thrombroxane A3. Prostaglandin I3 from
Eicosapentaenoic acid accents this pathway leading
to the reduction in platelet aggregation/adhesion.

Let me know if I need to explain it in a different
manner.
