Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents May Not Be Safe for Cancer Patients CME

"February 28, 2008 — Erythropoietin and darbepoetin, often used to treat chemotherapy-associated anemia in patients with cancer, might cause serious complications such as venous thromboembolism (VTE) or even death. Although previous systematic overviews of trials have identified the risk for VTE related to the drugs, this new meta-analysis, published in the February 27 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, is the first to identify mortality."
