I need some advice.
I am having knee replacement surgery on Sept 5...caused within 1 yearby side effects from Interferon..Pegasys, to be exact! My shoulder replacement is next! There is no cartiledge left in either joint! The interferon didnt work for the hep C, but my M-spike went down from 28 to 10 in 6 mos. It has been stable at 14 for a year.
I will be seeing my Onc today, so will see if I am still stable!
What a was to live!
Just some baCKGROUND!)
So,.... I take 8 grams of circumen with bioperine per day, with fish oil, resveratrol, querectin. There is also circumen in the chinese herbs I take for my liver, and zyflamend, an antiinflammatory by New Chapter.
I also take New Chapter Vit E with selenium.
My experience of circumen is that it is a blood thinner, as with vitamin e. The higher the dose of circumen, the more bruises on my body. My question is, how soon before the surgery should I stop taking it, and when should I resume? I am thinking about 6 days should do it, and resume when there is no threat of bleeding. The hospital says stop vit e ..about 10 days.
I have been refused for an autologous blood transfusion, because my platelets are very high..140...(must be the 12 0z of fresh green, organic veggie juice I drink every day) and my risk of hemmorage is very low, but they have asked me to take iron(Palafer). I have heard somewhere, that iron is not good for people with myeloma. Anyone know anyathing about this??
Are there any other supplements that I should be wary of ..anti ixidants, mushrooms etc, or any that I should be taking?
My bones are fine, no leisions where they are operating. In spite of all this, I think I must be doing something right (new results today ...always scary!). I met 3 people at the blood lab last week who had myeloma...everyone had had some horrible treatment and bone complicaations and pain, except me...who was dx 5 years ago! (well the interferon was a horrible treatment.....in 2003, but it was for hep c...lol).
We'll see What DR. Reece at Princess Maragret's has to say today, but bloodwork for operation all good. Liver enzymes were elevated, but coming down..with herbs.
Have a great day. Its a beautiful summer here in Toronto.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

natalie,i have started using something called zeolite (i have resorted to taking advice from
a naturopath).
on this site are a load of testimonials & FWIW http://www.liquidzeolite.... this link will take you to how someone has used it for HEP C
there are quite a lot of good reports on this use. i can't find anything on it suse in myeloma
but this is why i am using it.
hope this is helpful - despite the MLM set-up of the company selling zeolite.
i had to get it into australia from usa. makes you spew to jump through the hoops of the MLM & if i knew another mob i would use them.
cheers - joe

Hi, what you wrote sounds reasonable to me, not that I am a huge expert in this field, so this is just my opinion. I have not experienced any blood thinning (bleeding more than warranted if I cut myself, bruising more easily, and my platelet count went up with my most recent tests, etc.) to my knowledge while on curcumin, but I think it is good to be cautious. Good luck with your surgeries! Let us know how they go, please. Take care, Margaret in Italy
