These are two posts from the acor list in response to a WSJ article about a cancer survivor who was required to pay before treatment was given by M.D. Anderson.
I am usually in favor of market-based solutions to economic issues. However I don't think that chronic healthcare in the U.S. can be managed with basic supply and demand principles. I learned this the hard way having fought my insurance company...and lost. David

Well said Sandra,
       If we can have Medicare for over 65s why not for everyone. Health
care is a right. You should no more make a profit from keeping people healthy
than protecting life and limb with the fire or police departments. That's the
way it works in Europe and Canada.

I came to the same conclusion several years ago
while researching health care for poor families
with young children for a class I was going to
teach. Single payer is the only fair and equitable
way to deliver health care.
