caffeine study and implications for MM

Hi everyone! Today I posted about an Italian study published (May 2007) in "Molecular Pharmacology" (abstract: http://tinyurl.com/3862f5) on caffeine and human colon cancer cells.

A lot of what the researchers discovered seems to have implications for myeloma as well, in my opinion. They found, in fact, that caffeine inhibits VEGF and IL-8, which are involved in myeloma progression. And caffeine inhibits HIF-1 alpha, which is, simply put, one of cancer's best friends. I explain, or try to explain!, what this all means on my blog. If you are a coffee-drinker, this topic might be of interest.

And if you take curcumin, well, another thing that inhibits HIF-1 alpha is (drum roll) curcumin.

Needless to say, I am quite pleased today, since I drink coffee AND take curcumin.  Take care!
