Clinical Advances 2007

A report titled "Clinical Adances 2007" was published recently- I took what I think is important to members who are survivors and caregivers.

"The report, Clinical Cancer Advances 2007, has been published online December 17 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. In the report, ASCO officials review what they consider to be the most significant cancer research presented or published over the past year..."

ASCO lists the following as major advances:

  • The role of human papilloma virus in head and neck cancers.

Of the six "most important" I mention only the above, the role of hpv- why? I believe that I have read previously about a possible role that hpv may play in mm. Can anyone speak to this issue further?

Of the 17 that are "notable" I mention the following-

*Arsenic trioxide (Trisenox, Cell Therapeutics Inc) improves leukemia survival. Trisenox appears to improve both leukemia and mm survival.

*Lenalidomide (Revlimid, Celgene Corp) and bortezomib (Velcade, Ortho-Biotech) more effective together for myeloma.

It is important to note that these two therapies are more effective together for myeloma treatment.
