Free Light Chain Test results-

My recent free light chain results were as follows-

kappa- 1.25

lambda- 0.64

kappa/lambda ratio- 1.95

According to my onc, the kappa and lambda numbers are "totally normal."  However the ratio is slightly high.  Does anyone have a possible explanation as to why my kappa and lambda values would be normal yet the ratio is high?  David

David,

Re Kappa/Lamda levels below is an explanation from the "UnderstandigSerum Free Light Chain Assays" booklet from International Myeloma Foundation (IMF):

"If the kappa and lambda levels are both within the normal range, the ration may continue to be abnormal.  This indicates that there is indeed a persistent low level of active myeloma with excess production of the abnormal light chain.  If the ratio also becomes normal, this reflects an especially good remission and correlates with possible longer remission."

   Hope this helps.

Jeanne, Beth, Martine, Glenda, Marylynn and others-

I read mm listservs all day long so you wouldn't think that much here would surprise me.  But the quality of your questions and comments to my post about my flc results was terrific.  Have you thought of this?  Have you thought about that?  You are worrying too much.  Marylynn actually sent me a chart pointing out the possibility that i have fallen into the mgus catagory.  Thank you all for your support.  David
