vitamin D

Radiological health expert Daniel Hayes, Ph.D., suggests that a form of vitamin D could be one of our body's main protections against damage from low levels of radiation.

Radiological health expert Daniel Hayes, Ph.D., of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene suggests that a form of vitamin D could be one of our body's main protections against damage from low levels of radiation. Writing in the International Journal of Low Radiation, Hayes explains that calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D, may protect us from background radiation and could be used as a safe protective agent before or after a low-level nuclear incident.

Since I am posting about the pros and cons of sunshine i thought that I should include this article- David

"Answer

Yes, it's possible to have a sun allergy — though this is very rare. In
sensitive people, direct sun exposure can trigger an immune system
response that activates inflammatory cells or proteins in the skin."

Awhile back I posted that I noticed that Carlson fish oil had increased in price dramaticallly and that after doing some internet research I would get back to you with my results.  I don't remember if I posted on this previously.

1) I supplement with cod liver oil each day- both for omega-3 benefit and  and the vitamin D benefit (see previous two posts on vitamin d benefit-

2) I agree with Dr. Mercola that Carlson is the best brand for the reasons he sites below.

This post is a follow on to my previous post about the many benefits of vitamin D supplementation.

I don't know if it was caused by my VAD, cytoxan or the many chemos used for my pbsct but somewhere along the way, my skin developed extreme sun-sensitivity that is just as pronounced today as it was 10 years ago.  So yes, I love the sun for it's ability to make vitamin d in me but only in small doses.  David

As you all know, i'm not an oncologist so I don't pretend to have a medical explanation for why vitamin D helps with back pain.  However the b-m.org forum archives are full of articles on the benefits of vitamin D.  And the many myeloma forums out there are full of posts about back pain.

I have undergone bone damage.  I work at strengthing my bones. I suppliment with vitamin D 1,000mg x 2 each day. I exercise.  The study mentioned in the link below is another reason for me to suppliment with vitamin D.  David
