Numerous studies have proven the link between your state of mind and your immune function. Unfortunately, this link is not well understood. In the case of cancer, this link is even less well understood. I don't believe in just trying to maintain a cheery disposition. I believe in what Dr. Martin Seligman calls "Learned Optimism."
In the case of my own health and well being, I rely on the following:
- Exercise Daily- I just feel better mentally when I do some kind of exercise each day. I don't have the time or energy to work out hard each day, I just need to get my blood moving.
- Minimize Stress- this is a biggie- whether it's a stressful job or a stressful relationship.

This article makes the most sense for the stress link for two reasons:
1) It draws a clear link between stress and reduced immune function
2) This article is the most realistic about the presence of stress in our lives. The issue is how to deal with it effectively. I work out every day. Many people meditate or do yoga. Figure out what works for you.
If you are experiencing the stress of a recent cancer diagnosis, read the mind/body page as well.
