IMPORTANT - Website Migration and Updates - Posted 20080403

Hello all Beating Myeloma members!

I am both pleased and on edge about announcing that the Beating Myeloma website will be moving to a new server. The website as you know it will remain at the same URL it has always been located (http://beating-myeloma.org) and should experience little down time during the move. This should occur within the next week. We'll keep you posted!

Once our website has physically moved to the opposite side of the country (from a server in Columbus, Ohio to a server in Los Angeles, California), we'll be making some upgrades to the site. You may initially notice a few minor changes - the way some menus look or how some configurations appear. However, the site should continue operating as normal and everything should remain in the same spot it's always been located.

Lastly. Beating Myeloma is planning further site improvements that are tentatively scheduled to go live sometime in May. We'll keep you posted on these new and exciting renovations as they become available.

The reason we wanted to send you this email is so you may expect that there may be brief periods of time where the website is inaccessible while we take it down for maintenance. We'll take into consideration peak usage periods and avoid doing any work that may compromise the functionality of the website during peak hours. But, we did want you to be aware that we're going to be doing this work in an effort to make http://beating-myeloma.org/ a more useful and user friendly experience for everyone.

If you have any questions or concerns, please post a comment under this forum topic or email us at info@beating-myeloma.org and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Thanks, Robert

Hello Beating Myeloma Members!

This is a brief update on the work that we'll soon be doing on the Beating Myeloma website.

Monday, 14 April 2008, from about Midnight EST to 3:00am EST, we'll be working on migrating the Beating Myeloma website to our new webhost. We chose this time because of the typically low site usage during this time period. This process should go rather quickly and you should not notice website downtime as it will probably only be a few minutes. In the event that something unexpected occurs, the website may be unavailable for more than a few minutes, but you'll receive a website maintenance message while it's unavailable.

Once the website has moved over, we'll also have made one other change. Currently, you have the choice to subscribe to SDI emails and the ListServ emails individually. To stimulate more discussion and try to rope more individuals into participating on the website, we'll be simplifying the options available. As of Monday, 14 April 2008, we'll be sending out ALL website updates to subscribers in daily digest format. When we add an SDI to the website, you'll be notified that evening in the digest; when a new forum topic is created, you'll be notified that evening in the digest; when a comment has been written on any page of our website, you'll be notified that evening in the digest; etc. Initially, we'll activate this feature for all members. As always, we'll provide a link at the bottom of the email that will direct you to your subscriptions page in your user profile where the feature can be deactivated or configuration can be changed. We'll keep you posted on this change!

Remember, Monday, 14 April 2008, from about Midnight EST to 3:00am EST, we'll be working on migrating the Beating Myeloma website and you may experience downtime.

Thanks, Robert

Hello Beating Myeloma members!

This is a short note to let you know that we have decided to reschedule our website maintenance window to later this week. This is a last minute decision due to the addition of a number of other upgrades that we will perform during the scheduled time. Though these changes should require little website downtime, we decided that it would be best to only risk the possibility of inconveniencing our members once, instead of twice, if there were to be much downtime.

We have rescheduled the maintenance window for Wednesday 16 April 2008 from Midnight to 3:00am EST. Again, we expect minimal downtime, but would like to remind you that the website may be inaccessible at times during this window.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, we're working hard to continue making site improvements.

Thanks, Robert
